No one can deny that “The Wiggles” are one of Australia’s great musical exports. Not quite Rock’n'Roll but most of their members have had some R’n'R leanings in the past. The Wiggles are now stars all around the world. TV shows and Disney Contracts sell out Wiggles tours and Million Selling CDs make the Wiggles a wealthy and successful group!
Beginning as Cockroaches and playng for a friends kids birthday party the original Wiggles must have had not idea of what lay ahead of them.
Now recognized around the world as the Red, Yell, Blue and Purple Wiggles, Anthony, Murray, Jeff and Sam (replaced Greg) are certainly up there with some of the greatest Aussie International stars. My kids have all had their turn of being Wiggles fans and have danced and Wiggled for hours in front of the TV.
Keep on Wiggling Wiggles!

Happy Aussie Day everyone! Australia Day is Australia’s national day and celebrates the landing of the First Fleet of convicts under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip on January 26th 1788.
My ancestor arrived in Australia on the Second Fleet.

OK I am tired of the rain. We have had so much rain in the last 3 weeks or so that we are becoming water logged and growing gills.
Today at school there was a tornado warning. This means that we were perhaps in the path of a potentail twister. Luckily nothing came near the school. The emergency plans went into action and all was well despite some hungry kids. It happened at lunchtime!
Weather here can be much more severe than in Sydney where I was from. Sydney has its moments but here we have the crazy USA weather with cold air blasting down from Canada and colliding violently with warm air from the Gulf of Mexico to cause massive storms and tornadoes. Right now its just rain. Lots and lots of rain.

And now its Monday and more rain is about to hit. Enough. Enough Enough!

There’s no disputing that Australia has some of the most interesting animals in the world. But so does North America.
Australia has the koala, kangaroo, wombat, possums(that are nice not like North American Opossums)
USA has incredible animals like the Armadillo. I have seen ONE live in nearly ten years. Every other Armadillo I have ever seen are “resting” asleep on the side of the road with their legs in the air. Same for skunks. One live skunk in all that time. Now thats not necessarily a bad thing given the reputation of skunks.
A bird of prey that we see all of the time around here in Louisiana is the Buzzard. Large birds who “make a living” cleaning up the resting Armadillos and Skunks from the side of the road.

The home of the motor car is certainly the United States. It seems like everyone has a car and or a truck. (A truck is the term for a pickup truck here) And some of them are outrageously BIG! Dual wheels at the back. Massive things, some with lift kits too that would certainly not be street legal in Australia. And why do you need such a big truck? To carry your 4 wheeler of course. Or to tow your bass boat. Maybe both. The 4 wheeler is to ride when you go hunting. To drive to the deer stand and park while you wait to shoot the deer. Then to strap the deer or pig on and drive back to the truck. Would be cheaper to buy your meat at Walmart.

What is Football? Football here in the USA refers to the game that in Australia is called GridIron. In the UK Football is what in Australia is called Soccer as it is also in the USA. And down under in Aus, Football or “footy” can refer to Rugby League or Union or even Australian (Aussie) Rules.
In Australia sport is not a ig part of college or university. In the U.S. College Sport is HUGE. Many football fans will follow a College Team as well as a Pro team. This is aided by the scheduling of High School Sport on Friday nights, College Sport on Saturdays and Pro Sport on Sunday or Monday night.

It seems like one of the major differences I notice is the seasons. At this time of year, October, the weather is similar to Australia. And by this I mean the nights are cool and the days can be warm or cool. USA is heading into winter and AUS is heading into summer. Its a nice time of the year in both countries. The heat and humidity of the Louisiana summer is gone (thank goodness).
