And still they play. The band that introduced us to Texas Blues and “Sharp Dressed” Men are off to Chile to play a benefit concert on May 26th. Be there.
I saw ZZ TOP in Australia back in the 80’s and was simply blown away. 3 guys and what a sound. A power trio of immense proportions and skill. Billy, Dusty and Frank (he’s the one without the beard, last name Beard!) will certainly blow Chile away with their seemingly endless list of hits from their ever lengthening list of albums.
ZZ Top rock and roll with the best of them and seem ageless as they roll out hit after hit. Rarely pausing to take a breath Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill will once again hit the stage with Frank Beard ( he has no beard! LOL) for the Chile gig.

No one can deny that “The Wiggles” are one of Australia’s great musical exports. Not quite Rock’n'Roll but most of their members have had some R’n'R leanings in the past. The Wiggles are now stars all around the world. TV shows and Disney Contracts sell out Wiggles tours and Million Selling CDs make the Wiggles a wealthy and successful group!
Beginning as Cockroaches and playng for a friends kids birthday party the original Wiggles must have had not idea of what lay ahead of them.
Now recognized around the world as the Red, Yell, Blue and Purple Wiggles, Anthony, Murray, Jeff and Sam (replaced Greg) are certainly up there with some of the greatest Aussie International stars. My kids have all had their turn of being Wiggles fans and have danced and Wiggled for hours in front of the TV.
Keep on Wiggling Wiggles!

With a seemingly never ending string of hits and headlines Keith Urban never ceases to amaze me for his ability to churn out BIG tunes. His marriage to Nicole Kidman and subsequent birth of their daughter is just an ongoing addition to the saga that is Keith Urban.
I have never seen Keith live but do love most of his more “up” songs. (Isn’t tht most of them?) Keith Urban was one of the rising stars in Australia for a long time and certainly paid his dues.
I guess one of the other things I like about Keith Urban is that he plays a Gibson Les Paul in many of the clips that we see.

Midnight Oil the great Aussie rock band from the 70’s 80’s and 90’s spawned the Labor Politician Peter Garrett. not surprising really as the majority of their songs were political in some way or other.
I never saw Midnight Oil live in Australia. I guess the whole Midnight Oil politics thing didn’t grab me then. I like a lot of their songs. As songs. Not as political statements.
These days Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil is a Labor Minister for something. I hope that he is doing what he protested about via his music for 3 decades.

Wow what a gig this would have been to see. A true blast from the past as Cold Chisel blew the V8 super cars off the track!
A rapturous crowd danced and sang their way through headline act Cold Chisel’s live performance last night, capping off a massive concert program at the Sydney Telstra 500 this weekend.
The legendary Australian rock band played almost two hours worth of songs, including hits Khe Sanh and My Baby at the ANZ Stadium within the Sydney Telstra 500 precinct.
Cold Chisel also gave two encore performances, much to the delight of the adoring crowd who were witnessing what was possibly the band’s last ever performance.
The crowd was made up of Cold Chisel die-hards and those who had come along to experience all aspects of the Sydney Telstra 500, which has so far seen a total of more than 120,000 people attend.

What is Football? Football here in the USA refers to the game that in Australia is called GridIron. In the UK Football is what in Australia is called Soccer as it is also in the USA. And down under in Aus, Football or “footy” can refer to Rugby League or Union or even Australian (Aussie) Rules.
In Australia sport is not a ig part of college or university. In the U.S. College Sport is HUGE. Many football fans will follow a College Team as well as a Pro team. This is aided by the scheduling of High School Sport on Friday nights, College Sport on Saturdays and Pro Sport on Sunday or Monday night.

It seems like one of the major differences I notice is the seasons. At this time of year, October, the weather is similar to Australia. And by this I mean the nights are cool and the days can be warm or cool. USA is heading into winter and AUS is heading into summer. Its a nice time of the year in both countries. The heat and humidity of the Louisiana summer is gone (thank goodness).
